Children are taught Music in Early Years by a specialist Music Teacher and have two lessons timetabled per week. During this time they will learn and experience music through performances at Christmas concerts as well as end of year performances, singing alone and with others, playing instruments, dancing, improving listening skills, and developing an appreciation of the different rhythms of music. Children are exposed to a wide array of music from different countries and various cultures to enhance their open mindedness and creativity here at St. Andrews, Green Valley.
The curriculum in the Early Years follows the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum alongside the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The prime areas of learning are Personal and Social Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development. These are the foundations on which early education is built. The PYP programme provides great learning opportunities in the form of Units of Inquiry where children learn about who we are, how to express ourselves and living things. The foundations of Maths and Literacy are also firmly laid at this time, amply preparing your child for entry into Primary School.
